Auction of Hubley Toys & Company Ephemera

Bob & Sallie Connelly will conduct an Auction of Hubley Collection Toys & Company Ephemera at the Showplace in Binghamton on Sunday, November 23, 2008 at 11:00 am with a preview at 9:00 am. The auction includes over 500 lots and several hundred non-cataloged items from the Estate of Jan McComsey. Mr. McComsey went to work for the Hubley Manufacturing Company in Lancaster Pennsylvania at 15, and throughout his tenure, took home many items discarded by the Company, including mockups, color separations, correspondence, court documents, catalogs, notes and letters.

Selling without reserve AS IS at a 12% buyers premium are toys, including a grasshopper, specially built for Jan McComsey by Hubley designer Bill Gigl, a gold presentation 961 Ford Powermaster tractor (1 of 4 made), 35 mint cap pistols, over 50 puzzles, 500 comic books, Mickey Mouse magazines from 1933, hand blown and other marbles, Tonka and Hess trucks, and boxed games; Auction of Hubley Collection Toys & Company Ephemera, Sunday, November 23, 2008and dolls and accessories, including a 22" Karl Hastman, 23" Kestner, 28" Simon & Halbig, two early large composition dolls, an A&J bake set, doll dishes and furniture.

Ephemera in the auction include original artwork for Hubley's Indian motorcycle with rider and other toys, the earliest dated January 17, 1888, There are price lists, brochures, flyers and toy catalogs, as well as catalogs for door stops, paperweights, lamps, furniture and metal castings -- and drawings, color separations, and proofs for the catalogs. There are many pieces of correspondence between Hubley and other companies, including Harley Davidson, Indian Motorcycle Company, Lionel, Schoenhut, Arcadia, Murphy, Owens-Kreiser, and Maytag, and photographs of motorcycle toy displays. In all, there are over 200 pieces of ephemera and drawings of prototype toys that were never produced.

Lot 100. Classic Sandwich whale oil lamp.

The lamps, include more than 40 classic Sandwich glass whale oil lamps, many with matching spills\spooners; more than 50 finger lamps; also marble base, pedestal, banquet, student, Rayo, Ripley and Lomax lamps; burners, smoke bells, shades, chimneys and other related items. Over 130 pieces of Westmoreland glass, include lamps, dome butter dishes, sugars, creamers, vases, spooners, bowls, and compotes. Also in this auction: over 50 spills\spooners, mostly Sandwich glass. The Sandwich glass lamps include ring punty with 3 dolphin base in opalescent canary, and over 50 Sandwich spills.

Art Walk Exhibit and Sale: Acrylic & Lacquer Paintings by Sky Jones

As part of Binghamton's extended First Friday Art Walk the Connelly Gallery at 205 State St, Binghamton, NY 13901-2711 will open an exhibit and sale Connelly Galleryof original acrylic and lacquer paintings by internationally known artist Sky Jones on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. This is the premier exhibit of this California collection painted between 1984 and 1997. Visitors to the Gallery on Friday evening will enjoy hot, fresh popcorn, and may bring personal property (up to three pieces) for a free verbal apppraisal by a certified appraiser. The exhibit and sale of this outstanding collection by Sky Jones, will continue through November 28, weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and at other times by appointment (Telephone: 607-722-9593).

Born Michael R. Whipple in Salt Lake City, Sky Jones was graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in art in 1971. Working since 1984 as Sky Jones and since 1997 as Siren Bliss, he has executed artwork for movies, such as Star Trek, Meteor, The Neverending Story and Dressed to Kill, illustrations for magazines including TV Guide, Time, Look, Life, Newsweek, and People, and portraits for politicians, sports figures, and celebrities, such as Chuck Norris, Leonard Nimoy, Kirk Douglas, and Jaclyn Smith. The author of two books on art and life, The Artist's Bible in 1983 and Spirits in 1984, Sky Jones is represented in the private collections of notables such as Queen Elizabeth, Burt Reynolds and Mohammed Ali. Balaci, who has moved to an assisted living facility. The house needs updating, but is in move-in condition.

On-Site Real Estate Auction: September 12, 2008Connelly Realty, Robert J.
